West Sumatra Governor Pushes for Need of Construction Economics Engineering Experts and Potential Graduates of Bung Hatta University

The Governor of West Sumatra, H. Mahyeldi, S.P., emphasized the importance of construction economics engineering experts (also known as Quantity Surveying) for planning and calculating construction costs in order to accelerate infrastructure development. According to him, infrastructure is the main key supporting factor for the economy.

This statement was delivered when he received a visit from the Rector of Bung Hatta University (Prof. Dr. Diana Kartika) and the team at the Governor's Palace on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

Governor Mahyeldi specifically highlighted the great opportunity for Bung Hatta University (UBH) graduates to fill the need for these experts. He mentioned that UBH is the only higher education institution in the region that has a Construction Economics Engineering study program. Furthermore, the potential of UBH graduates from other sectors, such as marine and fisheries, is also considered very large.

On that occasion, the Governor also shared his closeness with UBH, including his experience attending and providing encouragement to new students both when serving as the Mayor of Padang and as the Governor of West Sumatra.

Mahyeldi hoped that UBH, as a university bearing the name of the Proclamator, would continue to produce "Young Bung Hattas" who inherit the noble character of Bung Hatta.

Responding to this, the Rector of UBH, accompanied by Vice Rector III, Dr. Hidayat, S.T., M.T., IPM., explained the university's efforts to instill the Proclamator's values through the "KeBung Hatta-an" (The Essence of Bung Hatta) course and Bung Hatta Character Education (Pendikar), which is held every Friday morning for new students. This program aims to ensure that UBH graduates truly become genuine "Young Bung Hattas."

At the end of the meeting, the Rector of UBH also conveyed hopes for synergy, collaboration, and the Governor's support for events related to the "KeBung Hatta-an" values, such as the idea of "Bung Hatta Month" to commemorate Bung Hatta's birthday or haul (commemoration of the death anniversary).
