Visit of UBH TRET Study Program Internship Supervisor to PT. Supreme Energy Muara Laboh (PT. SEML)

The supervising lecturers from the Renewable Energy Engineering Technology (TRET) Study Program, Faculty of Industrial Technology, Bung Hatta University (UBH), conducted a monitoring and evaluation (monev) visit to PT. Supreme Energy Muara Laboh (PT. SEML) on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The visit aimed to oversee the implementation of the student internship program and to strengthen sustainable collaboration between academia and the industrial sector.

The supervising team conisted of Mirzazoni, S.T., M.T., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology (FTI) UBH; Ir. Eddy Soesilo, M.Eng.; and Ulung Muhammad Sutopo, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. They were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Nizwardi Jalinus, M.Ed., Chairman of the Bung Hatta Education Foundation, and Drs. Ir. Mulyanef, M.Sc Secretary of the Foundation’s Board.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Erwin Patrisa Floris, Site Support Manager of PT. SEML, and Munggang Hendro Purwanto, S.T., M. Energy, Plant Manager of PT. SEML. During the meeting, both parties discussed the implementation of the internship program, student performance, and potential future collaborations in education and research.

On the occasion, Plant Manager PT. SEML, Munggang Hendro Purwanto, S.T., M. Energy, expressed his appreciation for UBH’s trust in choosing PT. SEML as an industrial partner.  “We truly welcome this collaboration. The students interning here have shown strong enthusiasm for learning and possess solid academic foundations. We hope this partnership will continue to grow and bring mutual benefits,” he said.

Meanwhile, Site Support Manager PT. SEML, Erwin Patrisa Floris, stated, “The TRET students interning this time have shown great enthusiasm and adaptability to the work environment. However, some of them still need improvement in foreign language proficiency, as well as data processing and analysis skills.”

Vice Dean of FTI UBH, Mirzazoni, S.T., M.T., emphasized the importance of industrial involvement in strengthening student competencies. “Internship activities in industries such as PT. SEML are crucial for equipping students with practical, hands-on experience. We highly appreciate the full support from PT. SEML in providing such valuable learning opportunities for our students,” he stated.

The Chairman of the Bung Hatta Education Foundation, Prof. Dr. Nizwardi Jalinus, M.Ed., also shared his perspective on the synergy between education and industry. “We encourage stronger collaboration with various industrial sectors so that Bung Hatta University students can be better prepared to face global challenges. Activities like this are a concrete step toward realizing higher education that is relevant, adaptive, and highly competitive,” he remarked.

In the TRET Study Program, internships are conducted for sixth-semester students. At PT. SEML, three students — Rivaldo Afri Jones, Alvin Surya Dana, and Citra Salsabilla — are undertaking a three-month internship program.

Representing the interns, Citra shared her experience during the internship at PT. SEML: “We gained a lot of knowledge and technical experience about Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP) directly in the field, especially regarding geothermal power generation systems, work procedures, and occupational health and safety. The engineers here are very open and guided us thoroughly. This experience greatly helped us connect classroom theory with real industrial practice,” she said.

Rivaldo and Alvin added, “During these three months, we truly felt like PT. SEML employees—coming and going from the site with the staff, participating in activities, and being guided closely by the engineers. It was a very memorable experience,” they said.

This monitoring and evaluation visit plays a vital role in supporting the success of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program implemented by UBH, particularly in the industrial internship program for Renewable Energy Engineering Technology (TRET) students. As a company engaged in geothermal energy, PT. SEML serves as a strategic partner in providing real-world experience related to the management and utilization of renewable energy in Indonesia.

UBH hopes that this collaboration will continue to be strengthened in order to produce graduates who are industry-ready and possess excellent competencies in the field of renewable energy.
