Universitas Bung Hatta Prepares Students for Disaster Response KKN 2026

Universitas Bung Hatta held the Disaster Response KKN 2026 Student Briefing on January 31, 2026, at Balairung Caraka Hall, Gedung B, Kampus Proklamator I.

The program prepares students before deployment to communities in disaster-prone areas, aligning with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Thirty-three students from multiple faculties participated, alongside university leaders, KKN coordinators, LPPM staff, and disaster management experts.

Prof. Dr. Diana Kartika, Rector of Universitas Bung Hatta, emphasized that the KKN Disaster Response is a tangible implementation of the Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi, particularly community service.

"Students not only carry a spirit of service but also scientific knowledge and practical skills to help communities build preparedness and resilience. We hope this program produces young change agents who contribute to risk reduction and sustainable development in West Sumatra," she said.

The program includes risk mapping training, evacuation education, disaster communication, and socio-cultural approaches in target villages. These activities aim to strengthen students’ mental, technical, and ethical readiness for field deployment.

Dr. Burmawi, S.T., M.Si., Chair of the Disaster Response KKN 2026, explained that the briefing ensures all students understand local needs and are equipped to implement relevant interventions.

"We want to make sure that the students’ actions in the field are practical, culturally sensitive, and impactful for the community,” he added.

Through this initiative, Universitas Bung Hatta demonstrates its commitment to education for sustainable development, fostering students who are not only academically competent but also socially responsible and capable of contributing to disaster resilience in line with global SDGs.
