Universitas Bung Hatta Lecturers Support Post-Disaster Economic Recovery in West Sumatra

Lecturers of Management at Universitas Bung Hatta, Reni Yuliviona, S.E., M.M., Ph.D., and Lindawati, S.E., M.Si., are actively involved in a Community Service Program (PKM) aimed at supporting post-disaster economic recovery in West Sumatra. The initiative is conducted collaboratively with Universitas Andalas, Universitas Negeri Padang, and Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis Agus Salim. The program aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The program focuses on accelerating the recovery of affected communities through mentoring micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), strengthening entrepreneurial capacity, and developing adaptive and sustainable business models. Activities are implemented in disaster-affected areas using a needs-based and local potential approach. According to Reni Yuliviona, economic recovery must go beyond physical aid and include human capital development.

“Communities need structured assistance to rebuild independently, improve business planning, and manage finance and marketing effectively,” she stated. She emphasized that universities play a crucial role in transferring knowledge and practical skills to ensure long-term resilience. This initiative also contributes to SDG 1 (No Poverty) by supporting income recovery at the local level.

Lindawati highlighted the importance of cross-university collaboration in maximizing program impact. She noted that knowledge-sharing among institutions enables more comprehensive solutions, ranging from business management to innovation and market access. The collaborative model strengthens both institutional synergy and community empowerment.

Through this PKM initiative, Universitas Bung Hatta reaffirms its commitment to implementing the Tridarma of Higher Education, particularly community engagement. The program is expected to foster sustainable local economic revival while enhancing community resilience against future disasters.
