Universitas Bung Hatta Law Students Promote Responsible Social Media Use in School Outreach Program

Graduate students from the Master of Law Program, Faculty of Law, Universitas Bung Hatta conducted a field study and community service program at SMK Negeri 1 Sumatera Barat on January 26, 2026. The initiative focused on digital legal literacy under the theme “Cool Without Slipping on Social Media, More Than Just Scroll and Like.”

The program contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening legal awareness among youth.

Accompanied by lecturer Dr. Uning Pratimaratri, S.H., M.Hum, the students delivered interactive sessions on social media ethics and the Indonesian Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). Discussions highlighted common violations such as hoaxes, hate speech, cyberbullying, and privacy breaches. The approach combined real-life case studies and open dialogue to ensure practical understanding.

Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Sumatera Barat, Zulkifli, S.Pd, welcomed the initiative and praised its relevance for students. He noted that the interactive format helped students better understand the legal consequences of digital behavior. According to him, the program reinforced the importance of responsibility and legal awareness in online engagement.

Head of the Master of Law Program, Dr. Deaf Wahyuni Ramadhani, S.H., M.H., emphasized that the activity also serves as experiential learning for graduate students. She stated that community engagement strengthens both academic competence and social responsibility. The program reflects Universitas Bung Hatta’s commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

Through this outreach, Universitas Bung Hatta reaffirms its role in shaping digitally smart, ethical, and law-abiding young generations. The initiative supports broader efforts to foster responsible digital citizenship in Indonesia.
