Universitas Bung Hatta Distributes 100 LPG Cylinders for Disaster Relief in West Sumatra
The academic community of Universitas Bung Hatta distributed 100 five-kilogram LPG cylinders along with essential supplies—including food, clothing, clean water, medicines, tents, and other necessities—to disaster relief posts across West Sumatra. This humanitarian initiative contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
The dispatch of aid was led by Rector Prof. Dr. Diana Kartika, accompanied by Chair of the Bung Hatta Education Foundation Board of Trustees Prof. Ganefri, Ph.D., Chair of the Board of Executives Prof. Dr. Nizwardi Jalinus, M.Ed., vice rectors, and senior university officials. The ceremony took place at the main campus rectorate parking area in Ulak Karang on 3 December 2025.
In her remarks, the Rector emphasized that the donations reflect the university community’s compassion and moral responsibility in responding swiftly to disaster situations.
Field coordinator Vice Rector III Dr. Zulherman, S.T.,M.Sc., together with Head of Student Affairs Dr. Henry Nasution, S.T., M.T., Student President Andri, and representatives from student organizations, explained that the deployed teams included student volunteers, technical units, and a Trauma Healing Team to support psychosocial recovery among affected residents.
He added that all donated supplies would be distributed transparently and accurately to priority locations mapped by the university’s outdoor student organization, Mapala Proklamator, which conducted early assessments in Salareh Aia Village, Palembayan District, Agam Regency.
Fundraising efforts are still ongoing, involving the wider academic community and the public. Universitas Bung Hatta hopes that this humanitarian action will contribute meaningfully to long-term recovery efforts in disaster-affected areas
