Universitas Bung Hatta and BTN Deliver Hydrometeorological Disaster Relief in Padang

Universitas Bung Hatta, in partnership with Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN), distributed emergency relief assistance to communities affected by the recent hydrometeorological disaster in Padang on 19 December 2025. The initiative supports the achievement of SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening community resilience through institutional collaboration.

More than 20 days after the flash floods struck the city, the impacts are still being felt by residents in several areas. The joint team led by Vice Rector III, Dr. Zulherman, ST., M.Sc., accompanied by Dr. Harfiandri Damanhuri, S.Pi., M.Sc., along with university staff, symbolically handed over 52 food packages to RW V of Kampung Lapai, Nanggalo District, and 15 snack packages to Panti Asuhan Puti Bungsu in Dadok Tunggul Hitam.

Dr. Zulherman stated that the assistance reflects the university’s social responsibility in times of crisis. “This support represents Universitas Bung Hatta’s commitment, together with our partner BTN, to stand with communities during emergencies and provide tangible benefits,” he said during the handover ceremony.

Dr. Harfiandri Damanhuri added that the orphanage was among the severely affected locations, with floodwaters exceeding one meter inside the facility. The condition significantly disrupted daily activities and the well-being of the children residing there.

Through this initiative, Universitas Bung Hatta reaffirmed its role as an impactful higher education institution committed to humanitarian response and sustainable community recovery in West Sumatra.
