During the activity, the group visited two leading cooperatives in Malaysia —KAGUMI Cooperative in Melaka and ANGKASA Cooperative in Kuala Lumpur —and conducted an academic visit to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). This activity is part of a series of programs throughout the even semester of 2024/2025, with a three-day study tour.
"The purpose of this activity is to strengthen the international collaboration network between Indonesian cooperatives and cooperatives in Malaysia in the areas of entrepreneurship, member economics, health outreach, and education," said Prof. Suryani via WhatsApp message on Saturday (June 21, 2025).
In addition, the group also conducted a visiting lectureship at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UITM). The event featured lecturers from various fields, including engineering, agriculture, health, and management, and was attended by UiTM lecturers and students from various disciplines.
"Through this event, we want to build synergy between cooperatives and universities across the country. Cooperatives should not be understood solely as savings and loans, but also as a knowledge-based economic force," added Prof. Suryani.
During a meeting with the KAGUMI Cooperative, the group shared experiences in cooperative development and in empowering small and medium enterprises. Meanwhile, during a visit to the ANGKASA Cooperative—the Malaysian national cooperative federation—strategic collaboration opportunities such as student exchanges, MSME training, and cooperative digitalization were discussed.
One of the key agenda items in this series of events was the exploration of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KPN Kopertis Region X and UiTM Malaysia. This collaboration is expected to open up opportunities for student internships and lecturer service across the country in the future.
The event also involved both in-person and online meetings, with a total of over 90 participants. Bung Hatta University's involvement in this program demonstrates the campus's commitment to expanding its international network, improving the quality of community service, and strengthening the role of academics in promoting economic and educational sustainability.
