Teaching Practitioners in the Chemical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Industrial Technology, Bung Hatta University, with Haryo Goenawan Wibisono from PT. PP

The Practitioner Teaching Program is an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia to ensure that university graduates are better prepared to enter the workforce.

As part of this program, the Chemical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Industrial Technology, Universitas Bung Hatta, organized a Practitioner Teaching session with Haryo Goenawan Wibisono from PT PP for the Chemical Plant Design course. The session took place in the Faculty of Industrial Technology meeting room, Campus III Universitas Bung Hatta, on Friday–Saturday, July 19–20, 2024.

The Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Prof. Dr. Eng. Reni Desmiarti, S.T., M.T., stated that the Practitioner Teaching Program represents an active collaboration between professional practitioners and course lecturers, enabling an exchange of knowledge and expertise between the academic community and professionals in the workforce.

“This collaboration is carried out within classroom courses, both offline and online. The practitioners who teach in higher education institutions come from industries, state-owned enterprises, entrepreneurs, professionals, artists, researchers, and government institutions, both domestic and international,” explained Reni.

Reni, who also teaches the Chemical Plant Design course, added that the Faculty of Industrial Technology is committed to implementing Sustainable Practitioner Teaching Activities across its study programs as part of the 2024 Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM) for the Chemical Engineering Study Program.

“The Practitioner Teaching for the Chemical Plant Design course in collaboration with PT PP is an implementation of the partnership between the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Universitas Bung Hatta, and PT PP. This collaboration began when Haryo Goenawan Wibisono, a practitioner lecturer from PT PP, delivered materials for the same course in October 2023,” Reni added.

Furthermore, she mentioned that the collaboration with PT PP through Haryo Goenawan has opened up opportunities for the Chemical Engineering Study Program to arrange industrial internship activities for its students at PT PP. The internship program is part of the PKKM activities for the Chemical Engineering Study Program, funded by Kemendikbudristek in 2024, and scheduled to take place from August 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024.

The Chemical Plant Design class conducted under the Practitioner Teaching Program was attended enthusiastically by 45 Chemical Engineering students from semesters 6 and 8. Celly, one of the students, expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the valuable insights and enrichment gained through the practitioner teaching experience.

“The enrichment provided by the practitioner teaching program gives us additional knowledge and experience, making us more confident and capable of producing higher-quality final projects,” said Celly.
