PTIK of Universitas Bung Hatta Distributes Donations to Flood Victims in Gurun Laweh, Padang

The Student Association of the Informatics and Computer Engineering Education Study Program (PTIK) at Universitas Bung Hatta, together with the Head of Study Program, Dr. Karmila Suryani, S.Kom., M.Kom., distributed humanitarian aid to flood-affected residents in Gurun Laweh, Siteba, Padang City, on December 2, 2025.

This humanitarian initiative reflects the academic community’s concern over hydrometeorological disasters that have affected West Sumatra and other regions, including North Sumatra and Aceh.

The activity also aligns with the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Dr. Karmila Suryani stated that the initiative was not merely about delivering aid, but also about fostering solidarity and social responsibility among students.

“This activity represents our empathy and solidarity toward communities affected by disaster. We want to be present on-site and provide both moral and material support,” she said.

The aid distribution was conducted directly at the affected location. Several PTIK students who were also victims of the flood received assistance. According to residents, the floodwater reached chest level, causing significant damage to household belongings.

“Many residents could only save their mobile phones and laptops. At the time of our visit, thick mud remained, and access to clean water was still disrupted due to non-functioning PDAM services,” she added.

Fundraising was carried out through two mechanisms: an online open donation campaign launched on November 28, 2025, and direct fundraising at strategic locations, including Simpang Haru, Pasar Raya Padang, and the Lamun Ombak intersection.

The public response was highly encouraging, as reflected in the strong participation during the fundraising efforts. Through this initiative, PTIK Universitas Bung Hatta reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian values while supporting sustainable community resilience.
