PT Semen Padang Partners with LPPM Universitas Bung Hatta and Other Stakeholders for CSR Program, Focusing on Fish Conservation

On February 22, 2024, at Wisma Indarung, PT Semen Padang signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Bung Hatta (UBH) and several other stakeholders related to its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL/CSR) program.

The PKS with LPPM UBH specifically focuses on the conservation program for Garing fish (Tor species). The signing by the Director of Semen Padang was witnessed by the Finance & General Director of PT Semen Padang, Oktoweri, Vice Rector I of UBH, Prof. Dr. Hendra Suherman, and a fisheries expert from UBH, Prof. Dr. Hafrijal Syandri, MS.

According to the Director of LPPM UBH, Dr. Azrita, S.Pi.,M.Si, this PKS is a continuation of the strengthened partnership between LPPM UBH and PT Semen Padang, and represents a tangible form of implementing the university’s Tri Dharma (Three Pillars of Higher Education).

This collaboration initially began in 2018 and focused on the rescue of the endemic bilih fish. These collaborative efforts have yielded outstanding results, securing five national-level awards (2022-2023 period), including the Proper Emas (Gold Proper Award) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the Indonesia Sustainable Development Goals Award (Gold Category) from Bappenas (National Development Planning Agency).

Azrita added that the bilih fish conservation cooperation is directly led by Prof. Dr. Hafrijal Syandri, MS. In 2024, the program is being expanded to include the launch of the conservation of Garing fish (Tor), another important species, which will be implemented in the Ring I area belonging to PT Semen Padang.

UBH affirms its commitment to providing significant contributions to addressing environmental and ecological issues, demonstrating a proactive role in supporting sustainable development in Indonesia.
