PKM Lecturers of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Bung Hatta Support Post-Disaster Recovery in West Sumatra

The Community Service (PKM) team of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Bung Hatta, together with student volunteers from the Development Economics program, distributed cooking utensils and basic food supplies to residents affected by floods and landslides in Lapau Mungu, Kuranji, Padang, on December 17, 2025. The initiative aimed to ease the burden of communities still struggling in the aftermath of the disaster. This program contributes to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by supporting vulnerable households with essential needs.

Helmawati, S.E., M.Si., Head of the PKM Team, stated that the activity was conducted under the theme “Community Service of Lecturers and Students of Development Economics, Universitas Bung Hatta: Have Fun for Children Affected by Floods and Landslides.” She emphasized that the assistance was delivered based on verified field data to ensure it reached the right beneficiaries. The program reflects the university’s commitment to accountable and targeted humanitarian action.

The humanitarian aid was made possible through collaboration with various donors and partners who entrusted the team to channel their contributions effectively. The initiative highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in disaster response efforts. In this regard, the program also aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

In addition to material assistance, student volunteers conducted trauma healing sessions for dozens of children affected by the disaster. Through interactive and recreational activities, the program helped create a joyful atmosphere and reduce psychological distress among young survivors. This effort supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), particularly in promoting mental health recovery.

The PKM team of Universitas Bung Hatta hopes that these efforts will contribute to the holistic recovery of affected communities, especially children, as they rebuild their lives after the disaster.
