Payakumbuh Becomes a Laboratory for the Architecture Studio of Bung Hatta University

The Architecture Study Program of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning (FTSP) at Bung Hatta University (UBH) has established a strategic collaboration with the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Payakumbuh City. This cooperation is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Tri Dharma (Three Pillars) of Higher Education, which was previously agreed upon by the Rector of UBH, Prof. Tafdil Husni, and the Mayor of Payakumbuh, Riza Falepi.

The signing of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) was held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Bappeda Office of Payakumbuh City by Dr. Al Busyra Fuadi, ST,M.Sc, Vice Dean of FTSP UBH, and Yasrizal, S.Sos., M.Si, Head of Bappeda of Payakumbuh City.

This collaboration specifically aims to make Payakumbuh City the location (locus) or object of design in various courses in the UBH Architecture Study Program, such as Urban Architecture, Nusantara Architecture, Minangkabau Architecture, Village Revitalization, Vernacular Architecture, Local Material Construction, Urban Design, Architectural Design Studio, and Architecture Seminar.

Furthermore, Payakumbuh will also be used as a locus for planning and research for UBH lecturers through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM). The focus of the study will be on urban development with strategic research themes such as the Payakumbuh City Center Area.

The Vice Rector III of UBH, Dr. Zulherman, ST., M.Sc expressed his appreciation for the follow-up to this collaboration and hopes that UBH can contribute to helping the Payakumbuh City Government resolve various strategic issues listed in the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) 2024-2029.

The Head of the Architecture Engineering Study Program, Ir. Nasril S, M.T, accompanied by a representative from the UBH BPP (Planning and Development Bureau), explained that this step will integrate lecture theories with real practice in the field, using Payakumbuh as an architectural studio venue.
