FTI - Bung Hatta University, Holds Hydropower Development and Management Workshop with the Norwegian International Center for Hydropower
The Faculty of Industrial Technology, Bung Hatta University, is set to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Rector of Bung Hatta University, Prof. Dr. Diana Kartika, and Tom Solberg, Project Director of the International Centre for Hydropower (ICH), Norway, on Saturday, May 4, 2024, by organizing a Workshop on Hydropower Development and Management at the Mercure Hotel on Monday, May 6, 2024.
The workshop, which runs until May 10, 2024, was officially opened by the Rector of Bung Hatta University, Prof. Dr. Diana Kartika, and was attended by representatives from various institutions, including the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Tamaris Hydro, PLN, as well as Andalas University and Bung Hatta University as the host.
The workshop, themed Hydropower Development and Management, featured presentations from experts of the International Centre for Hydropower (ICH), Norway, namely Tom Solberg, Kjell Heggelund, and Inge Løvåsen.
The event’s organizing chairperson, Prof. Dr. Eng. Reni Desmiarti, S.T., M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, stated that the collaboration between Bung Hatta University and the International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) is a strategic step to enhance understanding and skills in hydropower generation, particularly in the areas of development and management.
She also mentioned that, as the host institution, six students from various study programs under the Faculty of Industrial Technology at Bung Hatta University were given the opportunity to directly participate in this prestigious event. The participating study programs include Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Network Engineering Technology, and Renewable Energy Engineering Technology.
Reni explained that the International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) is an international organization actively engaged in all aspects of hydropower generation. The organization aims, among others, to enhance the competency standards of industry personnel by conducting intensive training courses on hydropower.
In addition, ICH also strives to raise public awareness about the benefits of hydropower and to disseminate technical knowledge through seminars, workshops, and conferences. This goal aligns with the Renewable Energy Engineering Technology Study Program, which has hydropower as one of its areas of specialization.
She expressed her hope that the workshop would provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the latest technologies in the hydropower industry, as well as opportunities to share experiences and best practices with experts from Norway.
Through the participation of six study programs within the Faculty of Industrial Technology, it is expected that this collaboration will broaden academic and professional networks in the field of hydropower.
Reni further added that partnerships established with various stakeholders are also expected to make a positive contribution to the development of Indonesia’s renewable energy sector, particularly in the efficient and sustainable utilization of hydropower potential.
