Field Internship of Aquaculture Students from Bung Hatta University at Padang Quarantine Agency

A total of 14 students from the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Bung Hatta University (UBH), recently completed a field practical activity for the Fish Health Management course. This practicum was carried out on July 18, 2025, at the Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency (BKHIT) Padang.

The students learned important material regarding the isolation and identification of viruses, bacteria, and parasites in whiteleg shrimp (vaname).

The course lecturers, Dra. Elfrida, M.Si., Apt and Sarben, S.Pi.,M.Si, explained that this activity is highly valuable because the students not only gain direct practical experience and skills from the BKHIT Padang team, but also receive relevant and high-value additional classroom material, and have the opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners. This experience is considered very relevant to the needs of the professional world.

Elfrida expressed her deep appreciation and thanks to BKHIT Padang for their willingness to accept and guide the students in this field practicum. She hopes that the cooperation and collaboration between UBH and BKHIT Padang can continue to be enhanced and expanded in the future. The expected collaboration includes routine activities such as practicum, internships, joint research, and community service programs that are aligned with the role and function of BKHIT.
