Digital Transformation in Nagari Talaok Reflects Universitas Bung Hatta’s Community Service Program Supporting the "Kampus Berdampak"
The Community Service Team (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PKM) from the Faculty of Industrial Technology and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Bung Hatta conducted a program entitled “Digital Transformation Towards a Smart Village” in Nagari Talaok, Bayang District, Pesisir Selatan Regency, on November 20, 2025.
The initiative represents the university’s commitment as an impact-driven campus in promoting technology-based rural development and renewable energy utilization. The program aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The Head of the PKM Team, Dr. Ir. Henry Nasution, S.T., M.T., stated that the involvement of multiple study programs demonstrates the faculty’s dedication to creating sustainable impacts in rural communities.
He noted that departments such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Network Engineering Technology, Renewable Energy Engineering Technology, and Informatics actively contributed to the initiative.
The program was also supported by lecturers from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, including Dr. Karmila Suryani, M.Kom, Mogastra Rachmana Nursi, S.Pd., M.Pd.T., as well as Computer Network Engineering Technology lecturers Riska Amelia, S.Kom., M.Kom. and Ahmad Afif, S.Kom., M.Eng., along with students from each department.
Strong community participation was reflected in the attendance of the Head of Nagari Talaok, local leaders, residents, and representatives of senior high school students across Pesisir Selatan.
During the sessions, Informatics lecturers Nurul Aulya, S.Kom., M.Kom. and Fitri Safnita, S.T., M.Kom. presented the Smart Village concept as a development model utilizing digital technology to enhance public services, education, economic activities, security, and overall quality of life.
Additional materials covered digital literacy, cybersecurity, ethical use of social media, and the digitalization of village services. Meanwhile, the Renewable Energy Engineering Technology team introduced the potential use of hydropower, wind, and solar energy to strengthen local energy independence.
At the closing session, the Head of Nagari Talaok, Ilwaldi, expressed his appreciation for the program and hoped that collaboration with Universitas Bung Hatta would continue. He emphasized that the initiative plays a significant role in advancing Nagari Talaok toward becoming a smart, independent, and innovative village.
