Architecture Field Study of Universitas Bung Hatta in Koto Gadang Supports SDGs on Education and Sustainable Communities

Architecture students of the 2025 cohort from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning (FTSP), Universitas Bung Hatta, conducted a field study in Koto Gadang, IV Koto District, Agam Regency, on January 3–4, 2026.

The program forms part of academic field-based learning aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

The activity was led by Head of the Architecture Study Program, Ir. Nasril Sikumbang, ST, MT, IAI, who also teaches the Building Materials Review course, accompanied by Assistant Lecturer Zullinda Nasrul, ST. He stated that the field study aimed to deepen students’ understanding of construction systems and material applications in traditional architecture as a practical implementation of classroom learning.

During the visit, the group was warmly welcomed by representatives of the Koto Gadang village administration, led by Indra Octa, Head of Planning Affairs at the Walinagari Office, along with staff members. The engagement strengthened collaboration between academia and the local community in preserving architectural heritage.

In addition to academic observation, the team introduced and socialized Universitas Bung Hatta to the local community and young generation. Information shared included faculties, study programs, campus facilities, and graduate career prospects.

Through this initiative, Universitas Bung Hatta reinforces experiential learning while promoting cultural preservation and sustainable community development. The program highlights the university’s commitment to education that integrates academic excellence with social impact
