Universitas Bung Hatta Students Provide Trauma Healing for Child Survivors in Salareh Aia
A group of students from various faculties and study programs at Universitas Bung Hatta conducted a trauma healing program for child survivors at the evacuation post in Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan, Agam Regency, on December 3, 2025.
The initiative was carried out alongside the distribution of donations collected by the university’s academic community as part of its humanitarian response to the recent natural disaster. The student volunteers focused on providing psychosocial support, particularly for children experiencing trauma due to the disaster.
At the evacuation site, the trauma healing activities included educational and recreational approaches such as group games, storytelling sessions, and creative activities aimed at fostering a joyful atmosphere and reducing psychological stress. Dozens of children participated enthusiastically in the program.
The volunteer coordinator emphasized that psychosocial assistance is a crucial component of disaster response.
“Recovery is not only about logistical support, but also about ensuring children’s mental well-being so they can gradually return to normal activities and continue their learning process,” the coordinator stated.
This initiative reflects Universitas Bung Hatta’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through mental health support, SDG 4 (Quality Education) by safeguarding children’s developmental continuity, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaborative humanitarian action.
The university hopes that these efforts will help young survivors gradually regain emotional stability, resilience, and optimism amid post-disaster challenges
