Universitas Bung Hatta Facilitates BTN Disaster Relief Support for West Sumatra

Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) has distributed IDR 50 million in disaster relief assistance through Yayasan Pendidikan Bung Hatta–Universitas Bung Hatta to support victims of floods and flash floods (galodo) in West Sumatra. The handover ceremony took place at the Yayasan Pendidikan Bung Hatta Office, Campus 1 Ulak Karang, Padang, on December 10, 2025, attended by representatives from BTN management and Universitas Bung Hatta leadership.

BTN Branch Manager KC Padang, Sudaryanto, stated that the bank moved quickly in response to the disaster to help ease the burden of affected communities. He emphasized that the assistance is entrusted to Universitas Bung Hatta for proper distribution, prioritizing impacted communities and students to accelerate post-disaster recovery.

Chairman of Yayasan Pendidikan Bung Hatta, Prof. Dr. Nizwardi Jalinus, M.Ed., expressed appreciation for BTN’s concern amid the crisis in West Sumatra. He noted that several members of the Universitas Bung Hatta academic community—including lecturers, staff, and students—were also affected, and confirmed that the aid would be distributed through student volunteers to ensure it reaches those most in need.

Previously, Universitas Bung Hatta had mobilized its academic community to collect and directly deliver humanitarian assistance to affected areas, based on field assessments conducted by the Mapala Proklamator team in Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan District. This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to community engagement and rapid disaster response.

The program contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by strengthening collaboration between the financial sector and higher education institutions in supporting disaster recovery and community resilience.
