Universitas Bung Hatta Distributes Flood Relief Donations in West Sumatra

Universitas Bung Hatta has distributed the first phase of humanitarian aid for flood victims across several areas in West Sumatra as part of its rapid response and social responsibility initiatives.

The program also reflects the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action),

The donation handover took place at the Aula of Campus III, Universitas Bung Hatta, Gunung Pangilun, on 29 November 2025. It was delivered by the Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Cooperation, and Alumni, Dr. Zulherman, S.T., M.Sc., through the President of the Student Executive Board. The aid was collected from lecturers, administrative staff, students, alumni, and other donors through internal university networks.

Rector of Universitas Bung Hatta, Prof. Dr. Diana Kartika, stated that the donations represented a strong sense of solidarity from the academic community toward disaster-affected residents.
“The first phase focuses on basic necessities such as food supplies, which are urgently needed by evacuees and families whose homes are still under recovery,” she explained.

Dr. Zulherman, accompanied by the Head of Student Affairs Dr. Henri Nasution, S.T., M.T. and Security Commander Amran, emphasized that the initiative was driven by humanitarian concern and carried out spontaneously. He also praised the strong spirit of mutual cooperation across the campus.

Student President Adri expressed the readiness of UBH student volunteers to distribute the aid promptly. He added that fundraising efforts were still ongoing and that the team had mapped the most severely affected areas to ensure targeted distribution.

In the near future, the volunteer teams are scheduled to be deployed to several locations in Padang City and other parts of West Sumatra. The first-phase donation is expected to be followed by additional assistance to accelerate community recovery.
