Guest Lecture of Japanese Literature Students of Universitas Bung Hatta with the Head of PR BRIN for Language and Literature Preservation

The Japanese Literature Study Program of Universitas Bung Hatta invited Prof. Dr. Obing Katubi, M.Hum., Head of the Language and Literature Preservation Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), to deliver an online guest lecture titled "Research Methodology in Language, Literature, and Culture" on December 5, 2024.

This guest lecture is part of a series of academic activities in the Research Methodology course, taught by Prof. Dr. Diana Kartika for Japanese Literature students at Universitas Bung Hatta.

Prof. Diana Kartika mentioned "Understanding research methodology is important, not only theoretical but also practical, especially in the fields of language, literature, and culture. This guest lecture will provide insight into current research ideas and trends, allowing students to develop more diverse research topics". Prof. Diana also stated that this guest lecture is expected to foster closer collaboration between Universitas Bung Hatta and BRIN in developing research on language, literature, and culture.

Prof. Obing Katubi, M.Hum., in his presentation explained various approaches to linguistic, literary, and cultural research, as well as how technology and innovation have become crucial tools in the preservation of traditional languages and literature.

"When conducting research, you must be able to formulate problems and operationalize them into research questions that differ from those of other researchers. The more you can define sharp questions, the more in-depth your research will be," added the BRIN Principal Researcher.

Prof. Obing Katubi provided tips for finding language research subjects, starting with topics such as language as a system, language use, and language mastery. Conducting research requires data as evidence, for example, how the language data was obtained and from where it was obtained. "The choice of research methodology is crucial for the success of student research. Students must be able to consider the research question, research data, and theoretical framework in formulating scientific research," said Obing Katubi.
