FTI's Chemical Engineering Study Program Strengthens International Cooperation with UTM Malaysia

The Chemical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Industrial Technology, Universitas Bung Hatta, which holds an “Excellent” accreditation rating from LAM Teknik and is provisionally accredited by IABEE, continues to strengthen and expand its international network. One of its initiatives was a benchmarking and collaboration visit to the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Reni Desmiarti, S.T., M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, included Dr. Firdaus, S.T. (Head of the Chemical Engineering Study Program) and Amelia Amir, S.Si., M.Si. (Secretary of the Program). The team was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Rahmat bin Mohsin (Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hajar binti Alias (Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering), and other faculty members.

Joining the delegation were other Chemical Engineering lecturers: Dr. Maria Ulfah, S.T., M.T., Dr. cand. Ellyta Sari, S.T., M.T., and Nofri Naldi, S.T., M.Si, The group also included Dr. Ir. Henry Nasution, M.T., lecturer of Renewable Energy Engineering Technology and Chair of the Doctoral Program Development Team at Universitas Bung Hatta, as well as two administrative staff members, Rio Wijaya Kusuma, S.Kom., and Masrizal.

During the meeting with the UTM Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Reni stated that the visit aimed to strengthen international partnerships, particularly as part of preparations for the submission of IABEE General Accreditation (GA).

Prof. Reni explained that several points were agreed upon during the visit and will be followed up soon, including: Student exchange programs for one to two semesters at UTM’s Department of Chemical Engineering, Lecturer exchange for several online teaching sessions, Joint research collaborations, and Workshops to improve the quality of students’ final projects.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Rahmat bin Mohsin, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, welcomed the collaboration plan and expressed his faculty’s readiness to facilitate the initiatives agreed upon by both parties.

Similarly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hajar binti Alias, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, mentioned that the two-semester study program at UTM provides opportunities for four Chemical Engineering students from Universitas Bung Hatta to conduct research and complete their theses at UTM.

The opportunity to complete their thesis at UTM is not only good news but also a valuable challenge for the Chemical Engineering students of Universitas Bung Hatta. This collaboration is expected to be successfully realized and bring significant benefits to both institutions.
