Excitement of the Marine Biology Field Practicum for Students of Fisheries Resource Utilization FPIK-Bung Hatta University

Students of the Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP) study program, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Universitas Bung Hatta (UBH) have just completed an interesting Marine Biology field practicum. This activity, held on June 22, 2025, was located at Nirwana Beach, Padang City.

Nirwana Beach was chosen because it has a complete coastal ecosystem, including mangrove forests, coral reefs, and seagrass beds.

According to Dr. Suparno, M.Si, the lecturer in charge of the course, this field practicum serves as the implementation of theory and an effort to directly enhance student competence. The goal is to provide students with real insights into actual natural conditions, complementing the material they obtain in the classroom with practical knowledge in the field.

In this practicum, students were divided into several groups to conduct various activities, including: water quality measurement, use of equipment such as Secchi disk and sediment trap, identification and monitoring of coral reef ecosystems, reef fish, seagrass beds, and mangrove areas.
